His parents were Sam Grubbs and Pegge Grubbs Mumford. Jim married Virginia "Jenny" McNew on November 13, 1975, in Logan, Utah, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Jim worked in his early years at Lone Star Steel and later went on to mortuary school. Jim came back to Gilmer and worked for Loyd Funeral Home. He later purchased the funeral home from the Loyd family. Jim worked for more than 25 years at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home and saw the opening of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana in 1999.
